Kristina brought me to a traditional Jola wedding in Harlem, our neighborhood.   One of the young men from an animist family married a young lady from Spain.  Jola weddings are a neighborhood affair.  The night before the wedding the male kin slaughtered a bull bought by the groom and all his female relatives spent all night preparing the food.  On the day of the wedding they cooked it in large cauldrons over wood fires.  There were so many people there and the crowd was dancing.  There was a DJ, a band of drummers and a saxophone player.
